The upcoming water main replacement project on Knight Street, between E 57th Avenue and E 63rd Avenue, is set to begin in mid-April 2025, with work starting at E 63rd Avenue. The project is expected to finish by late June or early July 2025, although dates may change based on construction progress. The work will be divided into three phases to minimize disruptions, with the area reopening as each phase is completed.

The most significant traffic impact will be on northbound lanes, as the water main replacement takes place on the east side of Knight Street. During weekdays, efforts will be made to maintain two lanes in each direction, but weekend closures may reduce the lanes to just one in each direction. It’s important to note that lanes near the centerline will be only 2.8 meters wide, while the outer lanes will be slightly wider at 3.0 meters. Trucks should use the curb lane where possible.a

Given the potential traffic disruptions, particularly during rush hours, it is recommended to avoid using the Knight Street Bridge and consider alternative routes. One option is to use the Oak Street Bridge instead. For those heading north on Knight Street Bridge, the suggested route is to take the exit toward Marine Drive, turn right onto SE Marine Drive East, and then left onto Argyle Street. For southbound drivers, using E 41st Avenue to connect to other designated truck routes is advised to bypass Knight Street. The Oak Street Bridge can also be a good alternative for traveling further south.
